Who Inkbot Design is
Inkbot Design is Stuart Crawford’s trading name and business brand. Founded in 2009 out of frustration with decoration-first design agencies, it provides strategic branding and identity architecture through a lean, senior-led delivery model.
Trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (B.A. Hons., University of Dundee) and serving as a juror for both the International Design Awards and European ADS Design Awards, Stuart built the practice on a single commercial thesis: brand strategy is the multiplier for business growth. Design is a commercial weapon, not decoration.
Stuart personally leads brand strategy and creative direction on every branding engagement. He acts as the client’s principal strategic contact. Tabitha Ayers reviews strategy and art direction. Trusted specialist collaborators may support defined technical, development, production, or specialist execution work under Stuart’s direction.
This model gives managing partners and CEOs direct access to the principal leading their brand strategy and creative direction, eliminating junior account-management layers while scaling delivery to reflect the needs of each project.
Inkbot Design operates remotely. Its business correspondence address is in Bangor, near Belfast, rather than at a client-facing Belfast studio.
What Inkbot Design believes
The market rewards the most visible and credible, not merely the best. The commercial gap between an established firm’s true capability and its external market perception carries a compounding penalty: the Obscurity Tax™.
When a £10M practice looks like a £2M generalist, it suffers from the Fee Justification Trap, the Marketing Drain, and the Convincing Grind—losing landmark pitches to competitors who look more authoritative.
Inkbot Design exists to eliminate that tax: positioning before pixels, commercial evidence before aesthetics, strategy over decoration.
Who Inkbot Design works with
Inkbot Design’s priority ICP is decision-makers—Founders, Managing Partners, and CEOs—at established professional-services firms generating £2M–£20M in annual revenue with 10–100 employees, particularly:
- Law firms.
- Accountancy practices.
- Financial advisory firms.
- Wealth-management firms.
- Management consultancies.
This ICP is both a lead-qualification filter and a strategic marketing target. It is not a claim that every historical client falls within this range.
The buying trigger is a brand visibly misaligned with the firm’s true market position—either looking generalist when they are specialist, or operating with an identity that has failed to keep pace with their commercial growth.
Professional services is the business’s primary specialism, with VC-backed SaaS companies (Series A+, UK-based) as its secondary focus. Clients are not restricted to the UK; Inkbot Design works internationally across the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, and other English-speaking markets.
Who Inkbot Design is not for
Inkbot Design is not positioned as a quick-logo service or a tactical design vendor.
Its work is intended for established organisations seeking a considered commercial approach to brand strategy, identity, and market authority. The business is not a fit for buyers who:
- Want only a quick logo or isolated visual refresh without strategic positioning.
- Are pre-revenue startups or do not have the budget for the £7,500 minimum scope.
- Demand hourly billing or open-ended ad-hoc design work.
- Cannot provide the partner-level leadership input needed for strategic discovery.
- Seek routine social-media management, content scheduling, or low-tier marketing execution.
- Expect additional requirements outside the agreed scope to be absorbed without commercial review.
What Inkbot Design does
Inkbot Design connects the strategic and commercial elements of a brand:
- Brand research, competitive assessment, and “Meaning Gap” analysis.
- Strategic brand positioning and category mapping.
- Visual identity and logo systems, including primary, secondary, and mark architectures.
- Verbal identity, brand narrative, and messaging frameworks.
- Comprehensive brand guidelines and technical specifications.
- High-stakes pitch deck architecture and tender narrative design.
- Executive LinkedIn profile architecture for managing partners.
- Ongoing fractional brand direction, governance, and quarterly brand health reporting.
Additional separately scoped work can include:
- Brand naming and linguistic screening.
- Website design and development.
- Launch and rollout governance.
- Multi-brand portfolio architecture.
The specific deliverables are defined in the engagement scope. Not every service is included in every package.
The Brand Equity System™
The Brand Equity System™ is Inkbot Design’s proprietary methodology for diagnosing, building, and actively compounding commercial brand value.
It is delivered through three defined formats:
- Brand Equity Audit™: Forensic written assessment.
- Brand Equity Blueprint™: Core brand architecture transformation.
- Brand Equity Partnership™: Ongoing brand direction and strategic execution.
Commercial objectives and diagnostic baselines are agreed for each engagement. Specific financial returns, search rankings, or AI recommendations are not guaranteed.
1. Brand Equity Audit™
Price
Free.
Purpose
A forensic written diagnostic of the firm’s brand presentation, market positioning, and digital visibility—identifying where perception gaps may be costing the firm higher-value opportunities.
Audit inputs
The prospect provides five diagnostic inputs:
- Current website URL, to be audited.
- Who is your ideal client—the client you want more of? Be as specific as possible.
- What is the primary reason you believe you lose pitches to competitors?
- What is the biggest issue between the actual calibre of your firm and how your brand currently looks?
- What is the firm’s main commercial goal over the next 12 months?
Scope
The audit covers:
- Identity Gaps: Where current visual presentation may undercut the firm’s actual capability.
- Visual Trust and Consistency: Assessment of brand cohesion across client-facing touchpoints.
- Messaging and Positioning Logic: Evaluation of differentiation and specialist versus generalist framing.
- Website and Entity Information: Review of structured data and consistency across external business profiles.
- Competitor Visibility: Benchmarking against direct sector peers.
- AI-Search Visibility Checks: Selected checks of how major AI tools—ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini—describe, mention, or cite the firm.
AI-search checks examine observable responses and cited sources. They do not provide access to an AI system’s internal reasoning and do not guarantee future recommendations.
Format and turnaround
- Process: Prospect answers the five diagnostic questions asynchronously by email.
- Deliverable: A 2-to-3-page written diagnostic report sent by email.
- Turnaround: Typically delivered within two working days (48-hour target) of receiving the completed audit answers. This is a target, not a guaranteed deadline.
- Commitment: No sales calls required and no obligation to purchase a paid engagement.
2. Brand Equity Blueprint™
Price and payment
£7,500 one-time fixed fee for the standard core-branding scope for one brand.
Payment is made in full upfront before commencement.
Purpose
To eliminate the firm’s Obscurity Tax™ by realigning its visual and verbal brand architecture with its actual commercial capability—giving a £10M firm the presence and authority of a £30M firm so it wins the mandates it is currently losing to more credible-looking competitors.
Tagline: “Your complete brand architecture. Built once. Built right.”
Standard deliverables
- Competitive Research and Market Assessment: Identifying the “Meaning Gap” competitors are failing to claim.
- Brand Positioning Framework: Category mapping (“Category of One”) and differentiation strategy.
- Verbal Identity and Messaging Framework: Core brand narrative, value proposition, and tone-of-voice system.
- Complete Visual Identity and Logo System: Primary mark, secondary lockups, brand mark, bespoke colour palette, and typography system.
- Comprehensive Brand Guidelines Document: The master specification governing all brand usage.
- Master Pitch Deck Architecture: High-stakes presentation template built for boardroom pitches and tenders.
The agreed project scope defines the exact assets and file formats to be delivered.
Timeline
Typically 4–6 weeks for one brand, beginning when upfront payment clears and onboarding inputs are received.
Substantial changes to the brief may require a revised scope, schedule, and fee.
Revisions
Revisions are included without a fixed numerical limit within the agreed strategic scope. A substantial change in business requirements or direction is reviewed separately rather than treated as an ordinary revision.
Separately scoped work
The standard £7,500 Blueprint does not include:
- Brand naming, including trademark search or legal-review responsibilities.
- Website design and development.
- Multi-brand architecture.
- Ongoing tender customisation and monthly brand governance, delivered through the Partnership.
- Routine social-media marketing or post management, which Inkbot Design does not offer.
3. Brand Equity Partnership™
Price and commitment
£3,000 per month equivalent.
- Mandatory three-month minimum initial commitment.
- £9,000 invoiced upfront at the start of each three-month cycle.
- Higher-capacity arrangements are available privately by agreement and follow the same three-month cycle structure.
- After the initial term, engagements continue in further three-month cycles, each invoiced upfront, unless terminated with 30 days’ written notice.
Purpose
To provide an ongoing competitive advantage that compounds over time—acting as the firm’s fractional Brand Director so its brand architecture, pitch collateral, and market authority keep pace with the firm’s growth.
Tagline: “Your brand, actively managed. Month by month. Result by result.”
Support includes
- Monthly Brand Strategy Sessions: Direct strategic advisory and roadmap planning with Stuart Crawford.
- High-Stakes Pitch & Tender Enablement: Ongoing creative execution and narrative engineering for bespoke pitch decks, RFP responses, and tender documents.
- Executive LinkedIn Architecture: Profile positioning and authority asset design for managing partners and practice leaders; excludes routine post scheduling or social-media management.
- PR & Authority Messaging: Strategic copy and narrative alignment for press releases, partner announcements, and market commentary.
- Ongoing Creative Execution & Rollout Governance: Active management of brand touchpoints, plus website and rollout work where included in the agreed scope.
- Quarterly Brand Health Review: Written diagnostic report tracking brand equity progression and AI-search visibility.
- Priority Access: Reserved monthly studio capacity and priority turnaround windows.
The Partnership scope establishes monthly priorities, available capacity, and included work. It is a dedicated fractional retainer, not an unlimited design subscription.
Term and renewal
Each Partnership engagement has a mandatory three-month initial term. At the end of that period, the client may renew for another three-month cycle or continue on a rolling basis with 30 days’ written notice.
Ownership and licensing
On final approval and receipt of all agreed fees, the client owns the final approved brand assets, including original editable files.
- Fonts are supplied where freely licensed. Client-specific or commercial font licences remain subject to the relevant font vendor’s terms.
- Inkbot Design does not use stock assets in standard brand identity work.
- Trademark searching, registration, and legal advice are separate services and are not included.
- Because Blueprint fees are payable upfront before commencement, there is no client usage of final assets before payment has cleared.
- Unused concepts and working files are excluded unless expressly included in the written agreement.
